Meet your snorkelling and diving companions

Did you know

  • In the early 1600s, our settlers issued the first conservation laws in the New World; our waters remain a safe haven today
  • Many of our dive and snorkel operators are open year-round so you can see for yourself
In 1609, our settlers were amazed at the “fish very fat and sweete and so abundant” that surrounded our island. Things are not much different today, with everything from anemones to humpback whales frequenting our clear, blue waters.

Why is our underwater life so rich?

  • Our shipwrecks make ideal habitats for fish and other marine species
  • Our impressive stands of mangroves provide a home for juvenile fish
  • Our vast barrier reef — one of the northernmost in the world — may be a bane to mariners, but it is a boon to sea life
