Bermuda Catch and Release Programme

Many captains encourage clients to participate in the Catch and Release Programme to help maintain our abundant supply of fish.

Over the past 10 years, the average release rate for blue marlin has been 92 percent, and the release rate for white marlin has been 97 percent. Protected species of marine life include porpoises, whales, dolphins, turtles, conchs, sea fans and coral of all kinds.

In our fishing communities, you will come across the Certificate of Release — noted by its free-jumping blue marlin — on display, encouraging all blue water anglers to release game fish that are not likely to be eaten.

Win awards in the Game Fishing Competition

Visitors and residents alike compete in the Game Fishing Competition. But who will take home the Outstanding Angling Achievement award?

Outstanding Angling Achievement Award
You can earn this award, a handsome silver pin, by catching one of four species of fish — greater amberjack, bonefish, yellowfin tuna and wahoo. You must meet the minimum weight requirements and other conditions, listed here.

Citation
This award goes to:

• Any visitor who catches a fish that weighs at least one and a half times the
  line test used and abides by all of the official rules
• Any resident who catches a fish that weighs at least twice the line test used
  and abides by all of the official rules

Award of Merit
This award goes to visitors who enter an official form for any game fish caught on
a line test.
